Jacqui holds an LLB from the University of Auckland awarded in 1987 and a senior law prize as one of the top students over the three professional years of the degree.
Jacqui was born in Hokitika on the West Coast of the South Island and was raised in Pukekohe.
Arrived in Taupo
Jacqui arrived in Taupō on 15 November 2000 with her husband Brent and three sons to live the Taupō lifestyle. Jacqui has enjoyed being in Taupō. With her twin boys about to start school, she started back in the law at Le Pine & Co in 2002.
Started her career
Jacqui started work as a summer Clerk at Nicholson Gribbin (now DLA Phillips Fox ) prior to finishing her law degree, and then worked there full time from November 1986. She was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court at Auckland in 1987.
The share market crash in the late 1980s was the dominant feature of the commercial legal scene at that time and Jacqui became involved in the insolvency area providing advice to receivers and liquidators of a number of the large failed companies. She continued to work in this area for about 10 years.
Jacqui now works in the area of estate administration providing advice to executors and trustees and assisting them to perform their duties. She is also involved in asset protection work and preparing trusts and wills.
How did she start in these areas?
Jacqui started working in the estates area in 2002 responding to a need in the firm at that time.
Memorable moments in the law?
Junioring on a successful High Court case assisting to put together an insolvency proposal to avoid bankruptcy for a client. This is a difficult thing to achieve and was a fascinating and challenging case.
What does she enjoy about her work?
Jacqui enjoys working with clients and assisting them through difficult times. She strives to provide a practical yet timely high quality service.
The law of estates and trusts can throw up complex legal issues and with her strong research and analytical skills Jacqui enjoys the intellectual challenge of her work.
Things which catch her imagination?
Jacqui loves being a part of the Taupō community and being involved with various groups assisting with her legal skills if required. She loves the outdoors and the Central Plateau area, its lake, mountains, bush and rivers. All in all she considers it to be a privilege to be part of the Taupō community.
She is very interested in design and creativity and expresses this through painting watercolours which in the main reflect her passion for nature and the outdoors.
