Jim has a Bachelor of Law from the University of Waikato, graduating in 2009 and being admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in the same year.
Jim grew up in Broadlands a little north east of Taupō, and attended Reporoa College. Following secondary school he worked in the transport industry, and for many years owned and operated a successful transport business with his wife Kitreena. A move to the retail industry allowed Jim to pursue his interest in law, attend university and gain his LLB. Before joining Le Pine & Co, Jim worked in the litigation and family law team of a large provincial law firm specialising in relationship property and estate disputes.
Jim’s focus remains with relationship property and estate disputes. He also advises clients on general civil litigation and contract disputes. A pragmatist, Jim is client-focussed and works to settle disputes effectively and quickly, wherever possible avoiding court proceedings.
Jim has appeared in the Family, District and High Courts on behalf of clients. Memorable moments include helping a client prevent a company going into liquidation, including 13 adjournments of the liquidation proceedings and going up against a large Auckland law firm with an international client and successfully obtaining orders for his clients to file a defence 20 months after the defence should have been filed.
Things that catch his imagination
Outside work, Jim values family time and loves the outdoors, especially mountain biking and hiking, ideal activities for living in Taupō and the Central Plateau. When not in the great outdoors, he enjoys watching rugby and motor racing.
