Jennie has an LLB from the University of Auckland which she gained in 2004, and was admitted to the bar in February 2005. She's also working towards a Bachelor of Social Sciences (which she is halfway through).
Jennie grew up in Kihikihi and attended Te Awamutu Intermediate and College before starting her studies at Waikato University. She transferred to the University of Auckland to complete her degree after meeting her now husband. When Jennie was in high school she attended Wagga Wagga Technology High in New South Wales, Australia, as part of a Rotary Club exchange. In her speeches as part of this programme she always spoke of becoming a lawyer.
After beginning work as a Law Clerk in New Plymouth in August 2004, Jennie practiced in the area for for 12 years moving between law firms and in-house roles before moving to Taupō in 2016. Her key roles included working at a nation-wide accounting firm (focussing on trust reviews and administration) and a private tertiary education practice (reviewing all contracts and managing the numerous trusts and companies involved). In her law firm roles Jennie focussed on trust and estate law as well as general commercial practice.

Outside of Law:
Jennie has three young active boys who teach her a lot about dinosaurs, space, and volcanoes. In her downtime she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and watching movies.
